JOHN WRIGHT Glasgow artist, John Wright, has spent a sizeable part of his career working in Mexico. His time there has given an exotic sense of colour, shape and image to his paintings. He has recently returned to Scotland and is now about to have a full scale exhibition of his paintings which range from tiny works to massive wall hangings. Artist’s Statement
For the last two years I have been living and painting in Mexico. Mexico has introduced me to new forms and combinations of colour. Walking down a street I am startled by a deep purple bougainvillea trailing down a bright wall, or a blue house with emerald coloured windows and doors. These fiestas of colour echo the trumpets of the mariachi and the rhythms of Mexican life.
Having grown up in Scotland, I am inspired and influenced by the vibrancy of everday Mexican colours and shades which are different from the Scottish palette and temperament.
For myself, I revel in what I am discovering, paintings with the freedom of the abstract, translating my feelings to the inner music of my vision. |
