Peter Thomson


Peter Thomson uses his art as a meeting place for his robust imagination, sense of Scottish history, and skill as draughtsman and painter, to comment in an individual manner on many contemporary issues.

Born in 1962, Peter studied Drawing & Painting at Glasgow School of Art from 1980 – 84.

Since graduating, he has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and abroad in solo and group exhibitions including Transmission Gallery, Glasgow; Maclean Art Gallery,Greenock; Y’Art Gallerie, Utrecht, Holland; Music Cultural Theatre, Mastricht; BP Gallery, Brussels,Belgium; Oriel Gallery,Cardiff; BP National Portrait Gallery Competition, London & Glasgow; London & Glasgow Contemporary Art Fairs with Compass Gallery; The Royal Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.

He is the Recipient of numerous Awards and Grants including Scottish Arts Council Assistance Grant, Paperboat Award by Scotland on Sunday Newspaper, Purchase Prize –The Smith Museum & Art Gallery, Stirling, Nobel Grossart 2nd Prize, John Murray Thomson Award- R.S.A. Edinburgh.

His work is held in the following collections : Gallery of Modern Art, Scottish Arts Council Collection, The Smith Art Gallery & Museum Stirling and Collins Gallery Collection, Strathclyde University Glasgow.
