David Martin, RSW, RGI (b.1922) is considered one of the most distinguished painters of the 'Scottish School'. Since 1948, he has exhibited annually with the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts. Martin is also a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (elected 1984), Scottish Artists and Artist Craftsmen (since 1991), and Society of Scottish Artists (Elected as Honorary Member in 1993). Amongst his awards are two Laing Prizes and the 1974 Robert Colquhoun Memorial Prize. He has exhibited regularly throughout his career including a major retrospective at Perth Museum and Art Gallery in 1999. His work is held in many major collections including The Arts Council of Scotland, The City of Edinburgh Art Collection, Perth Museum and Art Gallery, The Dick Institute, Kilmarnock, Robert Fleming and Company Ltd., Linklaters and Paine, Lord MacFarlane, The Earl of Moray, Credit Lyonnais Bank, Warburg Asset Management and the Clydesdale Bank. Martin divides his painterly talent between still life compositions and landscapes that make the most of his rich, creamy colours and thick brushstrokes. The landscape paintings often include harbour scenes, boats and other images associated with coastal regions of Scotland, Ireland and Cornwall. Please contact us to see other works by this artist.
